Trish
How long have you been in VACMS?
Since 2014.
What instruments do you play?
Flute
What are your other interests?
I love gardening and travelling. I enjoy working with young children and run a music for toddlers programme in Brighton. I also enjoy making toys for my grandson from recycled things!
Why did you join VACMS? I moved from Sydney to Melbourne in 2013 and wanted to meet other like-minded musicians who also enjoyed playing Chamber music. In Sydney I was a member of a string quartet and we met every week to rehearse and occasionally we played at weddings or functions, so when I moved to Melbourne I was keen to keep playing. VACMS was a great way to meet new people and enjoy my love of Chamber music.
What have you enjoyed about being in VACMS
My first experience was playing the Brandenburg Concerto 4 for 2 flutes and chamber orchestra which was a wonderful experience! I was quite nervous at the start but found everyone so reassuring and encouraging and friendly! I was really impressed with the standard of playing.
What are some of the event highlights?
We sometimes play at soirees organised by the VACMS team, a great way to perform the works we have practised at play-ins, great social events! I also really enjoyed the Baroque Play-in where Rachael Beesley gave a lecture about Baroque playing. We played in a masterclass which gave us the opportunity to learn so much about Baroque music. VACMS has really given me many opportunities to play and perform chamber music and in the process meet some wonderful people and I’ve made many new friends!
