4. Sunday 25 November (Lauriston Girls School)
Workshop and tutoring
Australian cellist and educator Josephine Vains introduced participants to the art of rhetoric in a relaxed chamber music setting. Josephine worked with a demonstration group to workshop repertoire from the Classical and Romantic periods, developing their 'speaking' skills and learning about musical rhetorical figures, emotional affect and passionate performance.
3. Sunday 12 August (Lauriston Girls School)
Baroque Special
Our third Baroque Special featured two chamber orchestras, one for intermediate players and above, and one for advanced players. The advanced group, with bass and harpsichord, played Brandenburg concertos no 3 and 5. We were joined by Soprano Leonie Thomson to play the wonderful Pergolesi Salve Regina, with Edie Rens conducting.
2. Sunday 3 June (Lauriston Girls School)
Workshop and tutoring
The ever-popular Zoe Knighton, cellist in the Flinders Quartet, returns for a workshop on Playing Together. Chamber music is all about playing together, but at this workshop Zoe focussed on the finer points of keeping a steady tempo, keeping players exactly together, matching articulation, and everything else needed to finesse a group's timing.

Let's Tango
For our final 2017 play-in, Argentinian bandoneon player Rodolfo Caivano introduced us to the tango style and how to play it in two workshops. Our group, complete with three bandoneons, left behind our American movie preconceptions of Tango and, inspired by Rodolfo's passion, created some authentic Argentinian tango.
3. Sunday 27 August
Baroque Special
Players had the opportunity to play Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Baroque specialist Julie Hewison joined us for a workshop on playing in the Baroque style and provided tutoring. Our Baroque special seems to be so popular that we're thinking about making it a regular event.
2. Sunday 18 June
Vocal Chamber Music
Talented soprano Leonie Thomson joined two groups to play Vaughan Williams and Faure, with a short lunchtime concert to give everyone a taste of the delights of chamber music with a singer.
